The Lockdown Style Edit
When lockdown first began, we were all suddenly confronted with some major, unexpected decisions. Whether it’s our work situation, childcare duties, looking after elderly parents or even just how to plan and get through the day to day, the pandemic has created far more questions than answers for many of us and the uncertainty can be overwhelming.
Thankfully, most of us seem to have settled into this new version of normal by now and, despite the adverse circumstances, we are embracing the opportunity to spend more time with our loved ones and understand what really matters.
Life does go on, and that brings with it many day-to-day decisions that we often take for granted. We all know how to dress for our day at the office but putting together outfits for working from home is a whole different story.
For those of us who have been furloughed, are working from home or are currently not working, it can also feel strange working out how to decide what we wear when we wake up each day with no real plans ahead of us. We advise to go with how you feel that day and don’t put too much pressure on yourself! These times are difficult enough - your style doesn’t have to be an issue.
We have outlined the top ways to nail your lockdown style on both a practical level and to make sure you embrace the opportunity to relax into your fashion and embrace casual vibes like never before.
Luxe up your Loungewear
Just because loungewear is the order of the quarantine day doesn’t mean you need to look slouchy with it. Designer loungewear (and especially preloved designer loungewear such as the pieces in the Shush collections) offers abundant comfort with the very best materials and flattering cuts.
These Loro Piana cashmere joggers are a fine example of just how comfortable loungewear can be. Team with a super-comfy sweatshirt from MCQ that comes in cosy cotton with an on-trend cropped style, or opt for an alternative look with this abstract, Pop Art style sweat from Givenchy with contract panelling, ribbed collar and flattering crew neck.
Comfy in Casuals
If you’d like to take things one step up from loungewear, there are many gorgeous ways to embrace a casual style. Flowing midi and maxi dresses and skirts are the ultimate in casual chic – we love this retro-style number from Saloni, crafted with a cotton blend, round neckline and frilled bottom hem for a pretty edge.
We also love the abstract prints and contrasting colours of this Etro dress made in viscose material with silk lining for chic comfort. If you’re less about the dresses, this summery set by BCBG Maxazria hits all the right style notes with a floral multicolour print, breezy lines and frilled detail.
Enjoy your Social Life
Our social lives are looking very different these days, with the weekly family pub quiz or drinks with the girls all taking place over Houseparty, Zoom or Skype. It might feel very odd to get dressed up for the occasion but this a good way to avoid going stir crazy in lockdown and establish the difference between lazy days and social times. Treat your virtual social occasions as you would those in real life and take the opportunity to dress up!
We are big fans of the jumpsuit for lockdown socialising as it’s easy to wear and effortlessly chic. This Alice and Olivia jumpsuit features a glittering gold bodice embellished with beads and sequins for true Saturday night vibes. A cut-out back, exposed leather trimmed zipper closure and side slant pockets add extra designer style points.
We also love a classic black jumpsuit – the alternative to an LBD – such as this Maje sleeveless, wide-legged jumpsuit featuring a V-neck with floral lace detailing. Add some chunky gold jewellery and you’re good to go – the beauty of dressing up for online socialising is that you don’t always need to add footwear!
Complete your lockdown socialising ensemble with this elegant Chanel pearl trim jacket – a super-rare piece, it features white cotton boucle, stunning glass pearl studs, ornate button closure and silk Camellia lining. As one of our favourite pieces in the Shush collections, this jacket is truly exquisite and unique, and the finest example of designer style!
Dress up Smart for Business
What we choose to wear is often a very true representation of our mindset. There are plenty of memes going around social media showing the new Zoom business meeting outfit, with smart on top and casual bottoms, for example – a polished blouse, earrings and a fresh blow-dry with your oldest jogging bottoms.
We don’t mean to be party poopers, but our Shush team really feel that dressing for work from top-to-toe is the only way to get into the right mindset and feel your very best, too. You want your outfit to mean business as much as you do!
Get the look with charcoal grey trousers from Christian Dior and a timeless ruffled blouse from See by Chloe with lace trim, high neck and key hole tie detail or Rebecca Taylor Inky silk blouse with floral print, three-quarter sleeves with elasticated hem.
For a simpler, more pared down style, you won’t go wrong with this sleek black Louis Vuitton tie blouse, a Valentino silk blouse in pure cream, while this Prada cotton shirt in blue stripe gives the ultimate preppy vibe.
If your virtual workplace style is a more eclectic one, try this electric blue Zoe Jordan suit on for size – it’s sharp and edgy with unmistakeable power woman vibes. We also adore this two-piece Prada Jacquard suit crafted from cotton blend and embroidered with a floral green pattern embellished with black lace detail.
